Teams, leagues and tournaments

WTTC organise and host InterLeague Tournaments. These are competetive tournaments where players have the opportunity to play other players of a similar level throughout the North West. They operate with 5 groups of different levels on a round robin fomat, playing up to 6 matches on the day. Prizes and trophies for each group winner and an champion trophy for the overall winner. Cost of entry £20.

We run several teams in the Warrington and District League and are always looking to strengthen them with new talent. Home matches are played at Culcheth Sports Club. Away matches are played at a collection of other TT clubs in the Warrington area.

We run multiple teams in all divisions in the National Cadet League and National Junior League, providing the opportunity for keen players, regardless of their ability, to experience competitive table tennis. The club supports juniors competing in TTE junior open tournaments and the Junior British League and the club also competes in the Lancashire and Cheshire League (recently crowned League Champions) and supports players selected for the region and the county.

If you are selected for a team, our coaches will discuss the match schedule and recommended training requirements with you and any applicable league fees. Those selected for a team will need to purchase a Warrington TTC kit, these are offered at the subsidised price of £20.

Clothing

For training sessions, the Warrington TTC club kit is preferred, alternatively a sports    T-shirt, shorts, socks, indoor training shoes and a tracksuit. Warrington TT Club kit is available at subsidised prices.

Bats

Bats are provided for beginners. After a few months we recommend that players progress to getting their own table tennis bat with a suitable blade and suitable rubbers. There are many different kinds of blades and rubbers on the market with considerably varying playing properties. Our head coach George Lennon will advise players on the type of blade and rubbers that they should be using to suit their ability and playing style and players will not be able to participate with unsuitable bats. We discourage players getting bats from general/high street sports stores as these are usually toys - the club has contacts with proffessional table tennis suppliers able to provide the required standard of bats.

Refreshments

The nature of training and matches requires players to pay particular attention to their hydration. Isotonic sports drinks, sugar-free cordials, weak fruit juices and water are all suitable - sugary, fizzy drinks are unsuitable.

Welfare officer and child protection

WTTC is committed to providing a safe environment for children and we encourage children to report anything that they're not happy about to one of the coaches. We have a welfare officer, trained in child protection, on hand at training sessions and they may also be contacted through this web site, see the committee members page. Our coaches are CRB checked as required by law and they are also trained in first-aid and safeguarding children and qualified to coach table tennis - holding the TTE-approved UKCC coaching qualification.

Fees

  • Annual membership fee - all players: £20
  • Weekly subs: £5 per person per session
  • Players pay on arrival at each session.

Warrington District League match fees

  • Regular players pay yearly subs in advance
  • Squad players will pay £5 for every home match

If selected for our National Cadet and Junior League teams or for one of our Warrington District League teams each player will require an TTE licence - renewable annually at the start of the season. There are two types: a £7 version for NCL/NJL/WDL junior players (also includes 1star tournaments) and a £18.00 version for all other junior tournament players. See the coaching staff for details. You can also buy/renew player licences on the TTE website.

Fees for tournaments such as Junior Opens and any league fee are published on the entry forms.

To play on a WTTC team requires dedication and commitment and hard work in training. Only those players training at least once per week at the club can be considered for a place in a club team.

Parental support

Parents have a key role in supporting children through a junior table tennis career - taxi, motivator, diary manager, financial support, kit washer and not to mention spectator, with many juniors playing matches, training and competing in tournaments several times a week. The support of parents is important and valued - the club wouldn't exist without your support and commitment.

We have prepared a guide for parents about junior table tennis careers and a guide to junior table tennis leagues and tournaments and there is also a separate guide for those playing in the National Cadet League and National Junior League.
