WarringtonTable Tennis Club’s Danni Eden and Rachael Scott finished third place in the ETTA’s Bromfield Trophy.
The ETTA’s Bromfield Trophy saw four teams contest the gold medal Bournemouth, Kettering, Warrington and Wembley & Harrow. The teams competed in a set of round robin matches to establish the winner.
Warrington’s first match saw them challenge the pre-tournament favourites Wembley & Harrow. Danni Eden and Rachael Scott performed well but the favourites were too strong and won 5-0. The score does not reflect the competitive match but Wembley & Harrow deserved to win.
The next match saw Warrington take on second favourites Kettering. The match seemed to be going Kettering’s way when they won the doubles to take a 2 – 1 lead. The next singles match saw Danni play the highest ranked girl in the tournament Nicole Bird. This match saw Danni produce her best table tennis as she dominated the match to achieve one of her best tournament wins. The match, now delicately poised at 2 -2, saw as Rachael play Lauren Ainsworth. Rachel also raised her game and an impressive display saw her overcome Lauren to achieve Warrington’s first win of the day.
The final match was against Bournemouth and the winner would take the silver medal. The match seemed to be going Bournemouth’s way when they won a very close the doubles in the final set to take a 2 -1 lead. Danni played another strong game to beat highly rated Amy Blagbrough. The match poised at 2 – 2 saw Rachael challenge Becky Kuzu. Both girls played great table tennis and the game stood at 2 games each. The winner of the final game would win the silver. Unfortunately the game slipped away and Warrington had to settle for Bronze.
Team Captain Kevin Eden said “I’m so pleased for Rachael and Danni. This is the first time that we have entered this competition and to take a bronze medal is a great result. Both Danni and Rachael played at the top of their game; I could not ask for any more.”
