Warrington Table Tennis Club's Sue Harper is the ETTA North West coach of the year.
The ETTA, table tennis' governing body, has awarded Warrington Table Tennis Club's head coach, Sue Harper, its coach of the year award for the North West region.
"This is a great achievement that recognises both regionally and nationally the commitment and development you have made as an excellent coach, as well as the significant impact you have had on other coaches and players that are grateful of effort and support you have invested in them," said the ETTA.
Sue Harper founded Warrington Table Tennis Club on just two tables operating from a social club in Culcheth. Seven years on, the club now operates in a school sports hall in central Warrington with sixteen tables, has ten coaches and has a thriving, growing membership which includes some of the region's top junior players.
A well-known table tennis figure in the region and a highly respected coach, Sue's experience extends over a lifetime of dedication to table tennis and to improving opportunities for youngsters through sport.
Sue coached Warrington to the Halton National Cadet League title in both of the last two seasons and coached its junior team to the league title last season.
Warrington Table Tennis Club's chairman, Kevin Eden, paid a glowing tribute to Sue, saying: "What a fantastic achievement. This award recognises Sue’s drive and dedication and her knowledge of the game is second to none. As a coach, I watch and learn from Sue each week; she engages with the players and they listen and respond well to her. The club continues to go from strength to strength under Sue’s guidance and leadership. We are all proud of this award. Congratulations Sue. We are very fortunate to have such a great coach and this recognition from the ETTA is thoroughly deserved. Everyone at the club is thrilled for Sue."
Sue Harper started playing table tennis as a junior, rising to play for England and winning a Commonwealth bronze playing for Great Britain. After her playing career, Sue captained the England Girls Junior team and went on to coach in schools, before setting up Warrington Table Tennis Club in 2006.
