The Cheshire Schools table tennis tournament was held at Halton Stadium on 9th February and what a fantastic day it was for Warrington TTC.
The day resulted in 3 champions from the club and congratulations go to;

The draw saw Warrington TTC team mates Jake Remmer and Alain Barthelemy play each other in the semi-final. With both players hitting top form the match was too close to call but Jake came through to win a hard fought contest. In the final Jake, representing Twiss Green Community Primary School put in a superb winning performance to beat Tom Naylor from Farnworth CE Primary School 3 -1, to become the Cheshire Schools under 11’s Champion 2016.
Jake started playing table tennis at Warrington Table Tennis Club at eight years old. He played for Warrington in the National Cadet League at just nine years, one of the youngest players to compete for the club. Jake is a great team player and shows great dedication to his training which has resulted in his fist tournament win.
James Courtney and Alex Flint representing Sandbach School made it through to the semi-final as number 1 and 2 seeds respectively in the under 13’s. James played Liam Bibby of Halton TTC and won through in straight sets, and Alex played Braden Jones of Sandbach School and also Warrington TTC, with Braden winning narrowly 12-10 in the final set. This set up an all Sandbach School final encounter, with James emerging on top in straight sets 11-5, 11-7, 11-5, confirming his top seed spot. James put in a superb performance and did not drop a set all day.
In the u16 event we had Callum Tizard (3) also representing Sandbach School and WTTC. He played brilliantly and made it through to play Patrick Swallow (2) of Halton TTC in the semi final. In a thrilling and close fought match, Callum came out triumphant in straight sets. This then set up a final encounter with Owen Webb (1), also of Halton TTC, who had beaten fellow Halton player, Matthew McCarthy, to reach the final. Callum dominated play and proved too strong for Owen, winning in 3 sets, 11-3, 11-0, 11-7. Callum had a great day and did not drop a set all day.
Both Callum and James play in the Warrington ‘B’ team in the National Junior League and are valued, committed team members who deserve these fantastic wins.
James previously captained his Sandbach School u13 Team to the Cheshire County Schools u13 title, where the team of 4 boys had remained undefeated throughout the whole day. They went forward to represent the County in the zoned Regional Finals event in Blackburn, where they came up against some very stiff opposition, finally being knocked out by countback of sets. James has also represented Cheshire County in the Cadet u15 squad, alongside Elizabeth Poyner. James won 4 of his 6 matches against Durham and Lincolnshire counties.
Callum captained his Sandbach School u16 Team in the Cheshire County Schools event, which once again were knocked out at the semi-final stage by countback, losing by the narrowest of 1 set margin.
Just 4 days later, the Merseyside Championship took place and we are delighted to have yet another 2 winners;
Connor Whitehead - Under 16's Champion.
Amy Hutchings - Under 16's Girls Champion
Congratulations to Connor and Amy. Full details will be added shortly.
All five Champions will now represent their counties at the National Championships in Wolverhampton on 23rd April.
