Warrington Table Tennis Club's Andrew Harper has been chosen to carry the Olympic Torch through Horwich, Lancs on Friday 1 June: one of 8,000 people who will carry the torch on its journey around the country in the run up to the London 2012 games this summer.

Twenty year-old mathematics student, Andrew, found out a few weeks ago that he was to be one of the lucky ones that will carry the Olympic Torch. He had to keep it a secret until the announcements were made last week by the London 2012 organisers.

Warrington Table Tennis Club's Rob Clarke said: "Andrew is a great role model for the junior players at the club, having achieved much in his table tennis career. He trains hard and has great determination and commitment to be the best that he can be. We can fully understand why Andrew was selected to carry the torch. Everyone at the club is thrilled to bits for Andrew and we'll be cheering him along his route on his big day this June."
