After a nervy group stage, with Amy (seeded second) dropping a match, Amy found herself up against her British league teammate and the number one seed, Bethany Farnworth in the knockout stages. In several previous encounters Bethany had always come out on top but this time Bethany was unable to find her usual smooth, pacey game. Amy got ahead early in the match and held on for a 3-0 win.
With confidence now high Amy was able to use her attacking game in the final against Katie Barlow to eventually come through 3-1, despite Katie threatening throughout.
"I'm so relieved. I just had to keep going and hope that it would work out," explained Amy after collecting the Weatherby trophy and £150 in prize money.
The Weatherby 2 Star Junior Open took place in Blackpool over the weekend of 14-15 December. The tournament attracted 100 entries, the most in recent years. There was £1,700 prize money available across the under 11s, 13s, 15s and 18s boys and girls bands.
