This weekend, 16 year-old Amy Hutchings took the first junior open title of the season, beating Kate Roberts 3-1 in the final.
The final match between Amy and Kate was close and either girl could have won. At two games to one up Amy managed to get ahead early in the fourth building a strong 7-2 points lead - a gap too big for Kate to close and from there the win became a formality.
Hutchings looked in confident form throughout the tournament and according to head coach Sue Harper deserved her win: "Amy is maturing into a confident, attacking player and is training well. She's a tough opponent for anyone to compete against and has got her season off to great start. We wish her well for season ahead."
Amy Hutchings is one of the country's top junior table tennis players, ranked in the top 30 girls nationally. She competes in the Junior British League for Warrington, plays county juniors for Lancashire and competes locally in the Liverpool and Warrington leagues. Amy recently competed in the 2015 School Games, helping the North West team to finish in second place.
Amy is next in action in the Liverpool League and later this month on 26 and 27 September will make make her debut in the Senior British League for Warrington.
